Although the backstage of a fashion show may be filled with state of the art hair technology, sometimes hair stylists opt for more mundane tools. "To prevent indentation when clipping the hair back, we use tissue paper or playing cards," reveals Katy Reeve, national creative director of Toni & Guy. For something that you can borrow for back home, try her hairspray can trick. "We use hairspray cans to smooth down fly-aways by spraying then rolling the can over the sections, which reduces the chance of moving the hair as you might do when using your hands."
"Whether you're looking for beachy texture or smooth sleekness, anything can be achieved with the right products," she advises - the products have been designed for a specific purpose, and using them correctly will achieve the desired effect. Do your research and experiment as well.
It's also important to build a strong foundation. "Always prep the hair beforehand to produce maximum longevity," she advises. "label.m Volume Mousse is an absolute staple at London Fashion Week.
With models rushing from show to show, product build-up with their hair is always a concern. "We use a soft brush with lots of bristles to break down the surface tension and residue products in the hair," explains Reeve. She suggests using dry shampoo, like label.m's version. "It absorbs excessive oils and product residue."
